I have zero sense of direction and my current Verzion phone with GPS navigation has been a miracle product for me. Plus I still have more than a year on my current plan and $299 is still a lot to pay for any device on my budget. Maybe when both my iPod and phone are due for replacement and iPhone 2G is out I will take a look.
If Apple et. al. will 'not prohibit' unlocking [SIM-swapping], then I'll be placing my order with either Amazon.de, .fr, or .co.uk.
I'd buy directly from Apple.es store, if they didn't ( market-segmentation, music-industry legacy ) only accept credit card deliveries to the same state where the card was issued.
In the meantime I've ordered an iTouch from the US store for 290€, as opposed to the 389€ it would cost at apple.es.
17% of that discount comes from me not paying my portion of VAT by making my sis re-send it to me, declaring it as a gift on the customs declaration form, (Happy Birthday to Me! Wow, a card and everything!) the rest is, well, the sucky dollar on the world market...
I have made some purchases from the iTunes Store on Tuesday and Wednesday but have not been able to download them as I get the following error "Unable to che for purchases. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later" I have been doing this at all times of the day for the last 48 hours with no luck. Is anyone having the same problem. iTunes support just reply keep trying and you can not talk with anyone.
I guess there were problems with the iTunes Store. Today I got an email from the iTunes support staff stating that I should now be able to download my purchases. They apologized and gave me a code good for 5 free songs.
The lower price definitely makes more attractive however however I still have a few months left on my commitment to Sprint. I'm hoping by the time my contract expires Apple will have a > 16gb version available and maybe even add 3G speed with decent battery life. I can then sell my new 16gb TOUCH for about $300 and pay the difference to get rid of my Treo and move into the world of the iPhone...
Every two years I buy the coolest, most powerful smart phone. 6 years ago it was free, 4 years ago it was free. 2 years ago I paid $150. All with 2 year commitment. I also need to buy one for my wife. Two phones plus a bluetooth earbud will run $1000. Then I have to go 24 months at $110. Ouch.
iPhone price
I was considering an iPhone for my DA for Christmas anyway. Now, it's pretty much a done deal.
Just like with my Harleys, if you have to ask why I use Macs, you probably wouldn't understand.
I just bought one tonight
I just bought one tonight :D
One of those 4gb "while supplies last" for $299 deals.
Woot! :D

If it's available in my 'the other European States.'

8gb too small IMHO

If I only could...
Not unless I can find a hacker to make it work with Verizon.
Still too expensive
