How to get Mac OS X Leopard for as Low as $40

From CrunchGear
Last night, I remembered something that you will no doubt thank me for later. When Mac OS X Tiger came out a few years ago, I was ready to buy it. I had my $130 in hand and was waiting in line. But as I approached the cash register, I ran into a coworker I knew and he told me that the University of Pennsylvania’s bookstore, which was right down the block, was selling copies to students for only $40.00. Being the cheapskate I am, I dropped the box I was holding and we headed out.

Sure enough, upon arrival at the bookstore, OS X Tiger was only $40.00. Neither of us went to UPenn, so we grabbed some dorky kid walking past us and asked him to buy it for us. He did, my coworker and I split a copy and I get Mac OS X Tiger for $20.

(Shawn's Comment: Nice. Way to help people rip off Apple in *multiple* ways)

You want a deal?

Assuming you have a retail copy of Tiger (or Panther), buy Leopard and once you have it installed and are happy with it sell your old Mac OS on eBay. You'd be suprised what people will pay for old "Out of Print" OS install discs.

BTW Amazon is taking Leopard preorders for $109 right now. Remember to go through any YML Amazon link so they get their little cut.

And this is why students are getting ripped off by Apple now

This kind of behavior really makes me mad. Educational discounts are really for students who can't afford to pay the full price and need the software to get work done. I guess this is why Leopard is offered at the amazing discount of $116 (previous OS releases were $69). Unfortunately, my university does not sell Apple software for less than the educational price. In the end it's just the students who get ripped off when other people steal from Apple. Nice one, guys!

... and to encourage

... and to encourage students to us that company's software, so in a few years when they have more money and are making decisions as to what software to buy at their workplace they will buy that company's software. If people learn one system when they are young (and have time to learn) they are likely to stick with it.
