Re: Cupertino?
Hey Matt,
Thanks for the inquiry re Cupertino. Unfortunately, YML won't be formally planning a trip to the "mothership" this January. There might be a few folks interested in going down on their own and if so, y'all might be able to arrange something and at a time that isn't restricted just to the Monday of Macworld week.
Shawn and Lesa will be presenting their workshop on beginning digital photography on the Monday I believe, and I am hoping to attend that, so Monday just didn't work out well for us this time around.
We'll definitely re-visit the idea for 2009.
Our apologies for any inconvenience. :-(

Monday may be free after all

Well, if we can't get them to reschedule the workshop back to Monday, perhaps some of us might still take the opportunity to go to Cupertino then.
At least, it's something to think about...

re: Cupertino Trip
Ya, even though Shawn and Lesa's all-day presentation is on the Friday and not Monday as first thought, we're still not planning on organizing a trip down to Cupertino for 2008. At this late date, it'll be tough to wrangle up enough people to make it worth the planning that goes into it unfortunately, not to mention our main objective of not having it cost too much for those that do go.
Plus I think the one-year hiatus will generate some new interest; we'll definitely revisit the idea in 2009.
As Shawn said, feel free to organize your own little private group down if you really want to make the trip.

That's too bad!
That's too bad!
I went on last year's YML bus trip for the first time (in years prior to that, I rented my own car and drove down).
The organized bus is very convenient, and well worth the extra money.
My wife and I would be a willing participant of some sort of organized group trip.
Cupertino, Cupertino, Cupertino!
How far is it from the Pickwick in San Fran to Cupertino? Could we take a city bus out there? Could a couple of us rent a car?
The mother ship is calling,
Steve
Not city bus accessible but
Not city bus accessible but I believe Bay Area Rapid Transit can get you out there and obviously, renting a car to go down would the the easiest way to get there.

You CAN get there by bus, but.....
While Shawn is correct that a car is the easiest way to get to the Mothership, he is not quite correct about access via public transit. First, Bay Area Rapid Transit (aka BART) only goes as far as Fremont which is roughly 20 miles or so from Cupertino. BART does not go down the San Francisco peninsula. (Well, okay, it DOES take you as far south as Millbrae which is about 30 miles northwest of Cupertino.) You CAN take the bus (actually, buses) to Cupertino, but it will mean transferring twice and taking two different bus lines. Total fare will be about $7.50 and take about three and a half hours each way. Obviously, not the way to go. The best way via public transit is to take CalTrain which is a Bay Area commuter train that connects San Francisco and San Jose with stops at cities in between. So, to get to the Mothership from San Francisco, catch CalTrain at 4th and King to the Sunnyvale station. From there, catch the southbound (towards De Anza College) number 55 bus and get off at De Anza and Mariani. You can walk to the Mothership from there. Total fare will be about $9 each way and take two to two and a half hours to get there. For more info about Bay Area transportation, including a travel planner, go to http://511.org.

1) According to Mapquest, about 44 miles.
2) Please see my post, "You CAN get there by bus, but..."
3) Well, I don't drive, but if a few other people are willing to rent cars, I'd LOVE to go!
Thanks for the

Cupertino
My brother and I rented a Minivan to go to Cupertino on Monday. We can take 4 additional people (or 5 if you don't mind getting close). My only requirements are that you share expenses for the trip (I figure about $15/person), and we need to be back to the hotel by 4:00 so I can return the car. I'll open it first to those who have already expressed an interest in this forum and then to everyone else. Please respond if you're interested.
Cupertino on Monday!
I'd love to go with you guys in the van. I was going to take the train etc, google maps said that would take 2h 36m.

Re: Cupertino on Monday
OK Steve, you're in! If anyone else is interested, please let me know by Friday, otherwise I'll probably switch to a smaller car.
How do I get in touch with you
Hi FatMac,
how will we meet up?
Steve
re: How do I get in touch with you
How does 9:00 in the lobby of the Pickwick work for you? Look for Paul and Matt. I plan on wearing a Minnesota Twins Baseball Cap.
0900 in the lobby - it is!
I'll be wearing an Air Canada cap, beige with red maple leaf.
