Apple's Growing Pains Hurt Feelings of Longtime Fans

From China View
Some of the loyalists who have made the California-based company so successful lately have turned on the tech star, complaining that the revolutionary company they supported has changed, showing signs of being wrong-headed, shortsighted, and even greedy.

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times Monday, long-time customers say that Apple is starting to remind them of historical rival Microsoft, which in their world is the prototypical soulless, monopolistic machine.

They should care

I believe they should care about your feelings. A strong brand such as Apple's is built at least partly on the emotion of it's users for the company, and this is particurlarly the case with Apple. Apple is not just another average company, it's a superbrand like Nike and Coke and Starbucks. It has even surpassed other technology companies such as sony and microsoft, because it is a cultural icon. When you get into this terrotory how your customers "feel" about your company is vitally important to the strength of the brand.

Certainly, most companies can not please veryone all the time, but with something like this, whether you think it is right or wrong can have a major impact on the good feelings associated with the brand, and with a company like Apple, much of that brand is built on those good feelings. Apple may make consumer electronics but a lot of what attracts people to those products is as much about the emotional attraction of "Apple" as it is the products they produce.

So in other words, not only should they care but they have to care.

I don't necessarily agree

fxgeek, I agree with you

fxgeek, I agree with you 100%, Apple's brand is one of its most, if not its most, important assets. Apple have for years marketing its self as "cool" with ads like Think Different and the iPod ads of people dancing. imagine if the iPod lost its cool factor? .......
