This isn't a book of theory—it isn't full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts: this is a book of which button to push, which setting to use, when to use them, and nearly two hundred of the most closely guarded photographic "tricks of the trade" to get you shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos with your digital camera every time you press the shutter button.
Here's another thing that makes this book different: each page covers just one trick, just one single concept that makes your photography better.

My favorite photo site belongs to Mr. Lauri A. Kangas.
It's called Photon Echoes and can be found at http://www.photon-echoes.com/
The quality of the photography is quite high, of course, but
Mr. K's choice of subject are ones I like too:
Astronomy, Scenery, Atmospheric Optics, etc.
and being a physics guy, I love the title! :-)
(…and be sure to check out the albino raccoon, i kid you not)
Love Scott Kelby's book - right now, I'm still just shooting on auto mode with my Olympus Evolt-510 but some of the concepts found in the book can be utilized in auto mode such as setting up a shot, shooting flowers, rule of thirds, etc. One thing Kelby suggests and what I'm going to do this week is to buy a bunch of different flowers from a florist and take various shots of them using his suggestion of shooting at eye level, blurring the background, etc.
"Some of you who are advanced digital camera users might find some of what is written on this site a little basic, but it’s the new to semi experienced digital camera owner that this site is aimed at. Having said this, even experienced users have already told me that reading the tips I’ve written have been helpful in refreshing their memories and reminding them of lessons once learned."
