iPod touch

From PlayList
After much speculation that a “phone-less” iPhone held a prominent spot on Apple’s “To Do” whiteboard, Apple released what many anticipated would be such a device in the form of the iPod touch, an iPod that shares most of the iPhone’s multimedia features and a small subset of its communications tools. Yet it bears the iPod name rather than allying itself with the iPhone. As an iPod touch its main mission remains media.

For some expecting a hybrid of the iPod and iPhone, the touch will come as a disappointment. But even without skewed expectations, the iPod touch is an imperfect player—offering a somewhat arbitrary feature set, no physical or remote controls for adjusting volume or controlling the player, very restricted video output capabilities, and, at best, an under-whelming display (and, at worst, one that’s virtually unwatchable when viewing dark video).

Please!!

I just want mine to ship - ordered on the 5th - so I can make up my own mind. All I've been doing is reading other people's reviews! Not quite the same as playing with a new toy. sigh....

Mossberg Isn't too Impressed too!

Walt has been off the farm for a while but it's good to see an old friend coming home.
In his article, "Apple’s iPod Touch Is a Beauty of a Player Short on Battery Life", he proceeds to tear into the fancy toy! Moss'y has been away from Job's Reality Distortion Field just long enough to start seeing the truth: Apple has less marketshare so it's products are inferior.
He rails:
"The company claims that the Touch can play music for up to 22 hours and video for up to five hours on a single battery charge, even with Wi-Fi turned on. But in my tests, using factory settings, music playback lasted just under 17 hours and video playback lasted just over four hours. Nearly every other iPod I’ve tested, including the new Nano, handily beat Apple’s battery claims."
"But it seems ridiculous to me to sell a powerful device with Wi-Fi and a huge screen, and to leave out things like an email program ..."
"unlike the iPhone, the Touch lacks volume-control buttons and a button on its earbuds for pausing or skipping songs. So you have to play, pause and skip songs by touching the screen ..."
Now if you wanna see some cool crap go to ZuneScene.com to see the new Zune2's. They also feature a link to my personal website prominately on the homepage.
