Paying for SMS Package on iPhone? MMS won't cost Extra

iPhone users on AT&T who are dying to send impromptu pictures of their cats to each other won't have to pay more for the privilege of using MMS—as long as they already pay for an SMS bundle. Buried deep within AT&T's iPhone 3G S FAQ document (PDF) is wording that acknowledges that MMS capabilities are coming soon, and "at no extra cost to customers with a text messaging bundle."

Apple announced at the WWDC keynote last week that MMS was coming to iPhone OS 3.0, set to launch this week ahead of the iPhone 3G S, but that AT&T would be offering it a little later this year. In addition to tethering (or the lack thereof, in AT&T's case), news of such a delay got iPhone users in the US up in arms, though AT&T has acknowledged that both are on their way.

The acknowledgment that MMS won't cost any more for regularly texting customers is good news.
