Prepping Laptop for selling it
Hi,
I'm thinking about selling my old G4 Powerbook and have a couple questions that I hope you all can help me with:
1/ The unit came with an older version of OS X but I upgraded it using a family pack of 10.4., Can / Should I make some kind of OS X 10.4 disc for the buyer to reinstall from in case they have to someday do a clean install? If so How?
2/ In general what do I have to do to prepare an OS X machine to be sold? Anything besides wiping the disk and doing a clean install of the OS?
Thanks for amy suggestions
Pete

You are not legally allowed
You are not legally allowed to make a disc of OS X 10.4 for a non-family member. You can do it by creating a disk image using Disk Utility but you're not supposed to.
Your #2 is pretty much all you need to do. You can make sure that, during the sale, you tell the new owner that they will have to supply their own OS X disks or you can give them the originals that came with the machine )overall, that's the best idea).

WOuld I be able to do a clean install of 10.4, then sell the laptop with the 10.3 disks that came with it?
Thanks
Pete
Legally? No. You would, in
Legally? No. You would, in essence, be using your Family Pack of 10.4 to give a copy of the OS to a complete stranger. Apple's End User Licensing Agreement doesn't allow for that.
Now, will Apple "catch" you and prosecue you? No, they won't.

I guess I'll stick with
I guess I'll stick with putting 10.3 on it or buy a single copy of 10.4.
Thanks for the help.
