Per Diems
Shawn, you're seasoned now. What's a good per-diem amount? Here's the framework:
* Coffee in morning (make it Starbucks)
* Lunch at a takeaway or budget restaurant
* Dinner at a takeaway or budget restaurant
* One small snack
* Transport on BART or cable car.
Any idea, doesn't matter how rough, would be appreciated. Being a foreigner, I don't expect things to cost the same as they do here in Australia.

No idea how much public transportation would be.

My $$ saving tips:
I saved a chunk of change by bringing my own snacks, like Granola Bars and fruit or pudding cups which (pack nicely, taking up little space) to hold me over until lunch and/or dinner. My lunch was always included in the package deal for the courses so I didn't have to worry about scrounging lunch money.
The only money I then needed to spend was for dinner--if the office didn't cover the cost for that day--I stay 2 extra days. (Unfortunately, they don't cover my Margaritas either).
Using this method, I ended up well under budget of what they allowed me for the trip, making the boss very happy.
And if you're going in the wee hours of the a.m. to stand in line for the Keynote bring provisions:
1.) Snack
2.) Water bottle.
3.) In case of rain don't forget:
--Umbrella
--or raincoat (ones vacu-sealed in tiny package work great),
--or even cheaper: a large garbage bag.
4.) Removable warm layers. SF nights are chillier, esp. standing in the pouring rain.
5.) Shoes good for climbing stairs quickly--you'll need the for the cattle stampede up the stairs to the Keynote.
