making it easier to migrate
I just used LittleMachines O2M utility ($10) today to migrate 8 GB (25,000+ emails going back to before 2000—don't ask why) to Apple Mail on Leopard. Despite the PITA and cost of having to first getting a legal Windows XP running on a Mac using Bootcamp, and then installing Outlook for Windows (more cost), and then importing 7 (one per year) pst archives, and then installing O2M (more cost), and then running the O2M export to MBOX (hours of time), and then importing to Mail (more time)...you get the picture, it all went surprisingly well, although O2M does not handle 2-byte characters so some Japanese subject lines were messed up and there is still a bit of sorting to do.
BUT REALLY, if M$ can't or won't offer a direct export from Outlook straight into Entourage 2008 (they both use pst files after all) from which Mail can import directly, Apple SHOULD make this migration a lot less painful than it is to help switchers cross the final hurdle. Surely it is not beyond their skills to write a direct importer for OS X to move pst files straight into Mail because although O2M is a great little application, all the heavy lifting still has to be done on Windows, which is exactly what I have been trying to escape from.
