YML Rocks Expo Party Ticket Giveaway!

SmileOnMyMac wants to giveaway Party tickets to 2 lucky listeners!

Here's how it will work...

A pair of tickets will be awarded to one person based on the distance they have travelled to get to Macworld Expo 2008. One winner will be chosen from North America and one winner from outside North America.

To enter, send name and address to jean at smileonmymac.com with the Subject line of "YML Party".

SmileOnMyMac will use this website to measure distances between foreign cities and San Francisco; for U.S. cities, they'll use Google Maps. In the unlikely case of a tie, they'll have a random drawing.

Should be fun. SmileOnMyMac wanted to do something to make it up to the folks who couldn't enter the Smile Contest. What a nice bunch!

Installing Applications on iPhone: A Report

Last night I installed Installer.app on my iPhone. Here is how it went.

Note: you must be in a WiFi hotspot to install applications on your
iPhone; Installer.app works over your USB sync cable, but all
subsequent installations are over WiFi. It will also be useful to
have an SSH/SFTP client on your Mac such as the free (and marvelous)
Fugu.

[1] Install Installer.app onto your iPhone from your Macintosh:

http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/

Installer.app will instruct you on how to proceed. You will have to
plug in your iPhone, let it sync with iTunes, then shut off iTunes
before proceeding.

[2] A new icon will appear on your iPhone: Installer. Tap Installer,
and wait for it to refresh.

[3] Click the Update button on Installer, and Update the Installer
itself.

[4] Click the Home button, and wait for iPhone to update; iPhone will
probably shut down, and you will have to slide to unlock -- this
seems to be how iPhone updates the main screen (sometimes known as
the SpringBoard).

[5] Now it's time to install some applications! The first
applications you should install are Community Sources, BSD Subsystem,
MobileTerminal, Launcher, and OpenSSH. These applications are
essential to the function of most other applications. For instance,

Apple faithful, We must Prepare Together for the Media Backlash

From Macworld

Apple fans, re-hypnotize yourselves with the photo above and get ready for the wave of anti-Apple stories, because I can feel it coming. I've been in this business long enough to know how it works.

Aaron's Anti-DST Rant

DST is stupid, and there’s no real justification for it. At least two states and four territories in the US don’t recognize it, and half the world by location, and likely population, doesn’t recognize it. Most importantly, the fact that clocks move ahead or behind an arbitrary number of hours at arbitrary dates at some places in this country and at some places in the world totally defeats the purpose of providing consistent, predictable time, the reason for time zones to begin with.
